Church Leadership
Todd Cheney, Pastor-Teacher

His life verse is James 1:12, “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the LORD has promised to those who love him.”
Pastor Todd is from Northridge, California and has been following Jesus since 1984. God graciously preserved him from an abusive and broken home; providentially using his godly grandmother to influence him to embrace Jesus and his Gospel. He is a graduate of Los Angeles Baptist High School where he competed in multiple varsity sports. Pastor Todd holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education from the Master’s College, a Master of Divinity from The Master’s Seminary in Los Angeles, CA, and a Master of Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He was called by God into Gospel ministry while he was a young soldier serving on active duty as a medic. He met his beloved bride, Kristin after transitioning to the Army Reserves in 1991. Todd and Kristin were married 18 June 1994 and Kristin has been an excellent helpmate and faithful supporter in Gospel ministry. God has faithfully walked with them through 30+ years of marriage. This includes seasons of trial, such as cancer and family deaths, as well as seasons of triumph and sanctification. They have been enriched by their three adult children: Kyle, Paige, and Trevor. An ordained Baptist minister, he served as an associate pastor at Shepherd’s Community Church (in Canoga Park, CA) from 1994 to 2000. Following that local church staff experience, he served the LORD as the senior pastor of Union Baptist Church (in Rio Vista, CA) from 2000 to 2004.
He has been in full time Gospel ministry since 1993, to include 20 years as an Army Chaplain with three combat deployments to the Middle East. As a Chaplain he was trained in Clinical Pastoral Education with special emphasis in physical and emotional trauma. Prior to retiring from the Army he served as the Command Chaplain for Army Corrections Command at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Other installations he ministered in included being the Garrison Chaplain for US Army Garrison, Rheinland-Pfalz, Baumholder, Germany overseeing the delivery of religious support to a military community of 50 thousand service members and their families. Pastor Todd enjoyed a dozen assignments over the last 20 years of pastoral ministry to the military. The most memorable assignments include Training Manager and Senior Instructor for the Department of Pastoral Ministry Training, Medical Center of Excellence at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas; Brigade Combat Team Chaplain, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York and Regimental Chaplain and Senior Pastor of Cadet Chapel, West Point, New York. His combat deployments include: Operation Iraqi Freedom (2008-2009), Operation Enduring Freedom (2011-2012), and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (2015-2016).
Pastor Todd loves spending time with Kristin; hiking, skiing, traveling, and staying physically active. He also loves reading American and Church history. He enjoys meeting up with others over coffee or a meal.
